My Voice Thread ( Solar PV energy )

Dear teacher and classmates,

The link is for My Voice thread, I hope you will like it.

Focus Soultion:( PV solar energy)

Solar PV (photovoltaic) is a modern technique uses to convert heat energy from sun to electricity energy. Photovoltaic system uses special cells to do this operation. PV cell contains one or two layers of silicon. This Semi-Conducting material receives the light and creates an electrical field across the layers causing electricity to flow.

The amount of produced electricity depends on the intensity of the light. There is a direct relationship between the intensity of the light and electricity. PV systems keep our environment clean because it doesn’t produce greenhouses gasses and each KWP can save 455 Kg of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

We can use this technique for any buildings face the sun within 90 degrees, however one of its minus is its heavy weight. So the roof should be strong enough to hold these devices. Moreover its price depends on the size of system to be installed. The cost can be around 5000-8000$ per KWP. Also solar tiles cost more than planes that are combined into a roof. If one person uses this system, he can save the environment from 1.1 tones of CO2 per year.

In conclusion, this system is suitable for gulf area because the weather is always hot and sunny. Also our governments can support this system because they will save a lot of fuel and reduce electricity cost.
Here a video talks about applying Solar PV in UK

(: cool cities commonts :)

Cool cities is a new expression to name the cities which try to be clean by using clean energy sources and all ways which keep their environment clean and reduce the amount of CO2 emissions. This example of cities is starting to apply in different places of the world seeking to fight the global warming effect which threats the humanity. Abu Dhabi was announced before five months about first new cool city in the world supplied with all environmental ways and clean energy sources. However not all adaptations in the cool city can be applied in the UAE. I selected three good adaptations and three bad adaptations according to UAE conditions.

Good adaptations:
· Using hybrid cars.
Actually UAE government tries to replace old cars with hybrid cars especially in Masdar cool city. These cars don’t depend on the fuel and don’t send CO2 gasses. Also their prices are lower than other types of cars.
· Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs.
These bulbs use about 75 percent less energy than standard one and save a lot in electricity costs. These bulbs are very useful and environment’s friend.
· Using solar energy to produce electricity.
Beneficial because our area is always sunny and we can produce a big amount of electricity. Also our government can save its fuel and keep our environment from CO2 emissions.

Bad adaptations:
· Using public transportation.
People in the UAE prefer to use their private car instead of using busses or trains

· Cool city by water misters.

Water supplies in UAE are limited and this system is cost a lot of money.

·
Using nuclear energy.
In a way it is dangerous kind of energy and costs a lot of money.

TDIC Projects

The construction projects in Abu Dhabi became international examples in construction world and rival modern countries projects.
Tourism development and Investment Company (TDIC) is one of grand companies which held huge projects in Abu Dhabi. It is projects are favored with wonderful and attractive design and contains a lot of new creations. In this essay I wrote about a project from TDIC that I liked most and a project I liked the least and I put my reasons for my selections.

The Emirates pearl is the project which I interested in because of many reasons. First of all the design is differential and it’s done by the famous architect Dennis Lems. The hotel sits a top a 22 meters high and it has a unique twisting glass. Also the interior design is inspired by the sea, sand and pearl fishing heritage of Abu Dhabi mixed with modern touches. Moreover the accommodations are luxury, comfortable and suit with people’s fancy. Last it has a good location beside emirates palace.

Qasr Al-sarab is the project which I liked the least for some reasons. First strong reason, the location is far away from Abu Dhabi and there is no an entertaining places beside it. Some people they don’t like to sit in small area for long time. Moreover the design is classical and no new creations in it. Finally the accommodation is limit and familiar.

Overall, construction companies in Abu Dhabi compete with each other to present the newest creations in real estates and tourism. However they participate in the same goal which is attracting business visitors and promote the economy.

My Carbon Footprint: Problems and solutions.

Carbon footprint is a useful and popular tool used by people to measure the relative impact of their actions. For example each of the products and service we use and consume release CO2. The total amount of carbon dioxide and other emitted greenhouse gases call a carbon footprint. I did a quiz about measuring my particular footprint at Internet network and I got 3.42. This number told me that I share in releasing CO2 as if I living in 3.42 plants to support us.
Each one of us has factors effects (his/her) footprint results and about me I have three main problems lead to my big my big footprint result. First of all my total traveling hours by airplane are 20. This contributes in polluting the air because of the big amount of CO2 which released in the air by planes. Second I bought many home stuffs like TV, air conditioner and refrigerators. Those stuffs contain methane gas which helps to increase greenhouse effect in our plant. Last I eat every day many kinds of food like meat, fish, chicken, vegetables and canned food. Those food need transportation and transportation pollute the air by CO2 emissions.
On the practical side, every one should think how to reduce their footprint and I about me I should take many actions to reduce mine. First action, buy more seasonal food instead of buying imported food from outside and try to be more vegetarian. Second walk or use a bicycle most of the time to reduce the amount of emitted CO2. Last solution, I should turn down any device in the home when I didn’t use it because electricity generation depends on burning fuel.
In conclusion, CO2 has a main role in increasing the global warming around the world. If every one calculate their footprints then take actions to reduce the result number, next future will be more bright and healthy.

An Inconvenient Truth: Summary

In this documentary Al Gore (former US vice president) Shares with the world his concerns on the pressing issue of the global warming. This documentary talks about Gore’s exploration of data regarding climate changes.
He became aware of evidence on global warming in the 1970’s. This show discuses the scientific opinion on climate change and politics and economic of the global warming. Also describes the consequence, he believes global climate change will produce if the amount of human-generated green house gases is not significantly reduced in the very near future. Moreover the movie discusses the possibilty of the collapse of a major Ice sheet in west Anatratica.
The film includes many evidences and facts about this phenomenon around the world to close the view for the watchers. Mr. Al Gore spend years collecting information and making many interviews to send to the people a simple idea but important which is that worrying about the effect of carbon-dioxide emissions on the world's climate .At the end he presents some effective solutions like electricity end-use efficiency, passenger vehicle efficiency and renewable. Last he ask the watchers to take the responsibility to fight against the global warming because if every one do his duty we will reduce the effect of this problem.

In my opinion we have to stop little and think about this problem wisely. Mr. Al Gore did a great job when he volunteer and made this movie because until now we can hand a control against this problem but after that there no chance. We have to think about our next generation because their safety is our duty.

Rise in number of cars in the world and global warming

The UAE capital is facing a massive increase in vehicular traffic, as a result of a 650 per cent increase in the number of cars from 2001 to 2006. The rise in the number of vehicles is also one of the major causes of traffic jams and accidents. This proplem became a dangerous phenomenon in the world becuase it help to increase the air pollution in cities and therefore spread the global warming.

As we know cars missions poisonous gasses and those gasses effect Ozon layer which protect our world. This Issue needs a real movement from the goverment to reduce the massive number of cars on our roads.
